Top ten sportspersons of India

Cricket is no doubt number one in spotlight in sports signifying India but there are other sports also which India played and excelled. These sports are namely, Badminton, Tennis, Kabaddi, football, Archery and so on… the names few of us have never listened to!

Ten sportspersons today who made India proud are:-

1. Sushil Kumar

Sushil Kumar Solanki is an freestyle wrestler of India. He won a silver and a bronze medal at the2012 London and 2008 Beijing Olympics respectively which made him the only Indian to win two Individual Olympic medals. He competed in the 66 weight division where he was honoured the 2010 world title.


2. P.V. Sindhu

Pusarla Venkata Sindhu is an Indian professional badminton player being at 2nd no. in the BWF World Ranking. She is 2ndbadminton player in India to ever win an Olympic medal. Also, she is a silver medalist at the 2017 BWF World Championships. She is a live example of how women should be and a role model for all youth of India.



3. Milkha Singh


Milkha Singh has a story which is hard to imagine for almost every one of us. Being orphanage at the age of 12, he has toiled for achieving respect and dignity in life. He is a former Indian track and field sprinter who was introduced to the sport while serving in the Indian Army. Also Milkha Singh was the only individual in India before 2010 to win an athletics gold medal.



4. Mary Kom

Chungneijang Mary Kom Hmangte is an Olympic Indian boxer coming from Manipur. She is the only woman boxer to won a medal in each of the six world championships. She is a wonder as she has the title of being five times World Amateur Boxing champion and only woman to qualify for 2012 Summer Olympics. Also called as “Magnificient Mary” she has been ranked number four AIBA World Women’s Ranking Flyweight category.


5. Abhinav Bindra



Abhinav Bindra is a retired professional shooter who is an Olympic and World champion in the 10m Air Rifle event. Abhinav Bindra is the first Indian to win an individual gold medal at the Olympics. Not only this, he is the one and only countrymen to have held the title of both World and Olympic titles at the same point of time. Also, he won the gold medal in 2014 Commonwealth Games at Glasgow.





6. Sania Mirza

She is an Indian tennis player who was formerly ranked No. 1 in the women’s doubles rankings. From 2003 until her retirement from singles in 2013, she was ranked by the WTA as India’s No. 1 player doubles.








7. Baichung Bhutia


A striker who played marvelously during his era but now a retired Indian footballer of Sikkimese-Bhutia is Baichung Bhutia. Three-time Indian Player of the Year I. M. Vijayan described Bhutia as “God’s gift to Indian football”.
