Can music affect athletic performance

With the advancement of technology, music have grown into the hearts of people resulting in the advancement of physiologic and psychological changes into the athletic performance. Dr Costas Karageorghis, lead researcher in the field of music have researched why music has the adverse positivity in the psycho physiological and ergogenic effects of sportspersons and athletes.

Confidence and agitation are the two sides of the mental spectrum which have the ability affecting athletic performance. An athlete’s mind is the controlling unit and directly proportional of how he will execute his tasks.

Music is the most popular activity among athletes nowadays. It’s a rare sight that I have seen person jogging or going for a walk without earphones to ping having songs to listen to.

Generally there are different types of music like fast tempo music which has merely less effects on heart rate but do increases the tenacity and motivation of the athlete. This zeal allows the athlete to work more intensively and for a greater duration.

I believe the increase in performance or the impact of music on performance is determined by the expectation of the effects of adding the stimulus. It is the game of psychology that if one believes that the music will improve the performance, then it will… no one can stop happening that!

Music has an ample of positive effects on athletes like:

ü  It makes you want to move

ü  It helps regulate your emotions

ü  It helps your muscle memory

Listening to music lets you develop your emotional well-being. Our brain wants to make sense of the information that comes in. Music can be heard while practicing so that it allows your body to move effectively and exercise properly.
