Health, a word that brings back all those statistics about obesity, anorexia and what not, flashing in front of our eyes. If we could only understand its beauty, being healthy wouldn’t be such a pain.
Let us start first by believing, believing that health is not our enemy or some end point that we need to reach by sacrificing the life that we are leading. Health is a journey, a path that you choose, it is upto you …….following the herd or taking the road less traveled.
With the increase in lifestyle diseases in our country it has become important that we start taking charge of our lives, our body and our mind, so that tomorrow we are not paying trainers, dietitians and psychologists to do the same for us.
Diet is not about starvation and eating those tasteless biscuits, it is about eating right, it is not about eating at home before you go out to party so that you don’t feel like hogging, it is about making the correct choice.
Why is dieting a torture? Why do I have to exercise? Why is diet depressing? Why is being healthy such a royal pain? Why!
And there’s the problem! We don’t need holistic health interventions; we need a cognitive intervention- from the Why to the why not?
Here are the Why not’s as we all should know them
Life is a party- Plan it well 🙂
Sustainability is perhaps the most valuable lesson you will ever learn in life, maybe not through this article but the sooner the better.
All beauty routines and diet interventions lose their charm with time because they are no fun!! Those bland diets are nothing compared to the crispy potatoes from our favourite Chinese restaurant.
Just like we plan the perfect pajama parties and birthday bashes, taking charge of planning for a healthy lifestyle can be fun too!
Here is how,
Make every meal like a colourful pallet that makes it appetizing and healthy. Decorate your plate with the yellow of proteins some peaceful white carbs, some charming greens and yes some fat…yes I said that! If eaten in right proportions it does a lot of good than we can actually imagine.
The good, the bad and the ugly
My last visit to the saloon ended up in rashes all over my body and that was it, I swore to god I will look pretty without any outside help!
What you can do to avoid these fiascos?
Just begin your day with a glass of warm water, lemon and honey just like they said on TV. It improves your digestion which is usually the root cause of skin problems.
Make it a point to rub cucumber on your tanned arms, some tomato or potato juice on the face and neck as often as possible especially if you are out in the sun most of the day.
The evergreen remedies, from the grandma’s closet as we all call them are a sure shot success, if you are patient enough to wait for the results.
Some chandan with milk and kesar, some Multani Mitti and some fresh aloe-vera, used over a long time will make your skin glow like never before.
Gym? Are you kidding me?
I personally have had the worst gym experiences. I therefore, chose to devise my own fitness plan, it goes like this-
- Switch on my favourite music track.
- Increase the volume and DANCE!
- Move every part of my body rigorously for at least an hour… the best workout ever!
- Get access to YouTube tutorials and you will know how to make move and groove and shed that extra fat!
Mirror-mirror on the wall..
Saving the best for last….
I sincerely believe that health and beauty reflect our state of minds. Though not many clinical studies have proven the exact correlation, but the funda is that the mind and body are best friends, one can’t function well if the other is in despair.
We need to pick up ourselves, be around positive people, laugh and dance and worry less for the mind to be free from the evil.
And similarly we need to be shape, for our mind to divert its focus on the beautiful elements of life, rather than problems like overweight and underweight.
But over and above that, acceptance is the beginning of every journey.
Say it with me and feel the difference
“Whoever I am, fat or thin or shapely I am great and I will work towards being greater.”
